Christmas, New Years and Birthdays, Oh my

It has been over a month and I thought I had better jump on here before school starts for me on Tuesday and things get a little busier.  The break has been nice and we have gotten a few projects done, but all good things must come to an end😉

We have had a lot of fun these last few weeks.  I will try and sum it all up, I hope that I do not miss anything.

We were able to go see the lights at Cross E Ranch. It was a fun socially distanced activity that we were able to do.  We enjoyed some of their donuts after as well.  Yum!   On the way home we drove past the Temple Square lights and a really lit up house way up in the avenues.  I think they call it Frosty's Wonderland.  It had so many lights.  It was a really fun night!

Later that week we celebrated Pierce's birthday.  He is 6!  He has so much energy and so much emotion(good and bad).  He is learning a lot in school.  It is fun to see him when he understands a concept, he gets a proud smile on his face and it is so rewarding to see.  We partied with pizza and chocolate cake and Laurel and Hardy of course.

After that the kids started their two week break from school.  We tried to do a few things to stay busy.  We played hockey at the stake center once with our family.  It will be fun when we can add more people to the mix again.  We built a couple gingerbread houses, made a few Christmas crafts,  and sang some Christmas songs a few times with Jake on the Guitar.  We played games, watched movies and continued watching Laurel and Hardy.  The kids are really into them and it makes Jake and I so happy.   Jake took the older kids sledding one day also.  I'm a wimp when it comes to the cold and stayed home with Wes.           Good times!

Jake worked Christmas Eve and Christmas.  Christmas Eve we had a fun visit from my mom and dad.  We also got to see my sisters at one point or another.  It will be so nice when we can all be together again.  We watched It's a Wonderful Life Christmas Eve, like we do every year.  I love that movie.  It is even more special to me now as their home reminds me of ours.  Laws and I were the only ones still awake so we turned it off and finished it Christmas Day.  The kids left some beef jerky and  mountain dew for Santa, because he needs a break from all of those milk and cookies 😉  Pierce was so cute and kept grabbing stuff from the kitchen, he grabbed some carrots and a tangerine because he wanted Santa to have something healthy.  He also put out an ornament he made.  He and Wes are in a really fun stage.   We were able to visit Father Frost again this year.  We have been doing it for years.  We weren't going to do it, but thought it would be a good way to remember this crazy year.  He was in a snow globe.  You can see in the pictures below.

Christmas morning we did our best to stay entertained until Dad came home and we could do presents.  It was nice to have doors that closed off the front room now.  I just closed them up and it made it less of a distraction. The kids made snowmen out of powdered donuts for breakfast and enjoyed them with some mint milk.  Then we went up and watched Noelle in my room.  It was a cute Disney movie.  After that they watched another movie.  We still had a bit of time to kill so we decorated another gingerbread house.  While finishing up Jake got home.  The kids were so ready.  They did their stockings and then we did presents.  It was such as nice time together.  After lunch we had a zoom meeting with Jake's fam.  It was good to see everyone.  We enjoyed our normal Christmas favorites for dinner.  We had made our traditional creamed eggs, and stewed prunes with walnuts and cream the day before.

New Years eve we just spent at home together.  We kind of did that last year as well, so it wasn't too different.  We had a bunch of appetizers and treats to snack on all night and we played some games and put on a movie.   The kids had glow necklaces and pop its.   Jake and I headed to bed around 9:30.  Wes had already fallen asleep.  The rest of the kids tried their best to stay up.  Pierce didn't make it, Ava fell asleep a little before Midnight, but Laws woke her up to ring in the new year.

The kids were back at Virtual school on January 4.  It took them a day or two to get back into the swing of things.  They are starting to have kids come back into the school by age groups starting in a week with the Kindergartners.  They will still have the virtual option for families.  We have decided that staying virtual will be the best for us now.  The numbers have still been pretty high.  On a side note, Jake just got his second dose of the vaccine this past week.  So that is pretty cool.

We celebrated Lawson's birthday this past Thursday.  He is 12.  What?!  He is in young men now.  They are just barely getting a leader together as young men's has kind of been non-existent for a bit.  He is excited to see what it has to offer and to be a deacon.  He is a great big brother and a great helper around the house.  He loves to learn, draw and create.  We partied with frozen burritos, German potato salad and jello.  You know boys.  Yesterday we celebrated my birthday.  Jake got me my favorite pizza, because it is good and so I didn't have to cook.  My family made it a really nice day for me and I love them so much.  I got so many birthday wishes from family and friends and that made my day.  A funny little thing... Jake was talking about my birthday with the kids and I and Pierce so tenderly said, "Mom, I love you so much.  I will give you my whole heart."  My heart just melted.  And then in typical Pierce fashion as he left the room he added, "  I will stab it out for you".  That kid!

I will be starting school on Tuesday and am a little anxious about Finance 5000.  I am signed up for 5 classes, but will be dropping some after I review the syllabi and course work.  I like to sign up for possible classes and then figure out which ones will work best for me.

Lawson and I gave talks "in church" today.  We have still been sticking at home on Sunday's and participating in church virtually.  The bishop read our talks for us.   That is the kind of talk I don't mind giving.  They were on Self worth.  A very worthy topic😉

Well we are excited for 2021 and are anxious to see what it has to bring.

So every day we pick up Jake, Wes covers his face when Jake gets in so Jake can't see him.
It is the cutest.
