Memorial Day and Love

We have had a lot of fun this past week or two but have also had some learning experiences as well.

This past week we have seen the news and what is going on in our world today.  It is hard to figure out exactly what to say about this.  Not because I am not sure what I think, but I worry about not saying the right thing and offending someone (as I do with many other things).  I think a lot of us may feel this way sometimes.  I am not always an eloquent speaker and it is hard for me to express myself how I want to.  I know that I don’t know what others are going through including those of color.  I also realize I will never know exactly what they are going through, but I do know that we can learn more and do all we can to hear and support them.  I know I am continually learning, and I still have a lot to learn.  I am always trying to figure out the best ways to teach our children, especially about the things that are going on in the news right now.  I love that everyone is sharing their own thoughts and resources about educating their families because it is a great resource to me and my own family.  One thing that has been taught to me from a very young age is Love One Another.  It is something I have always thought is important and I continue to try and be an example of that to my family and to others.  We were lucky enough to grow up with some really great neighbors, the Stott's, each from different backgrounds.  I always felt at home in their home and  they were always welcome in ours.  We had a lot of fun running around together through the years.  They were our neighbors, our dear friends and we loved and supported each other.  This helped teach me  about race and diversity at a young age and for that I am grateful.

We have always taught our children the importance of being kind to everyone, no matter their race, beliefs or other differences.  I saw this post on social media:

I think this is very important.   We can teach our kids in our homes what racism is and what we can do about it when we see it.    We all can continue to learn and have these conversations, even when they can be hard.   Violence and discrimination are never the answer.  Spreading love, being kind and supporting one another is something we can all do to help heal our community and world.
