So it's been awhile/New Year's Resolution

So it has been awhile since I have done this blog thing.  Once I remember how to use the blogger site I may switch things up a bit.

This past week we celebrated New Years, where we played games and had fun with some family and friends.  Along with New Year's comes resolutions.  Some years I am good at them, some years I am not.  I have a few things I would like to improve on this year, but the one I am focusing on right now is documenting my own and my families lives better.  When I was younger I had good journal writing habits here and there.  As a young adult I was pretty good at writing about once a week until a month or so after I was married, then it kind of died off.  I feel bad I haven't kept up with this, especially these last years because so many important things have happened.  Since then I have always told myself I need to start writing again, but never did.  I started this blog awhile back, but I haven't written in my journal.

I know others who keep blogs.   I have a good friend that diligently writes every single week.  I love to read about things going on with others and their families.   As I have been reading these I thought to myself, this is like a journal.  These people document about themselves and their families with words and pictures.  Not only is it a joy for us to read, they now have record for themselves,  their family and future generations.

So that is one of my top resolutions this year, to document my family.   Yes, almost 13 years and 4 kids later I am going to do it.   I am going to start with my blog, but try to also try to keep a personal journal with more of my thoughts and goals in as well.  I may not always be the best at it, but I am sure going to try.  I am off to a good start, right?!

We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas season with lots of time with family and friends.   I think Lawson and Ava are about ready to back to school though.  We all need to get back into a better routine again.

Lawson is almost 10.  I can hardly believe I have been a mom for a decade.  He loves to read about anything and everything and doesn't have a problem correcting me on things or rattling off random information here and there.  He enjoys cub scouts and hanging out with friends. He was been wanting to help cook more lately and made himself and his siblings dinner the other night.  It was hot dogs and ramen, but hey he did it all by himself.  He is getting old enough to help out more around the house and with his siblings and he usually is a good sport about it and a lot of times will even ask me what he can help with.

Ava is as girly as they come.  She loves to carry a purse everywhere and get dressed up when she can.
She is still a bit shy but definitely has a bit of a spunky side as well.  She loves school and to read and talks about wanting to be a scientist when she grows up.  She is so helpful to me with Weston and with things around the house.  She loves her cousins and friends.  She has such a tender heart and the sweetest disposition.

Pierce just turned 4 and is our little spit fire.  He is so full of energy and personality, but also can be SO stubborn.  He is learning so much, so fast.  He loves anything superhero and dinosaur right now.  He looks up to his big brother a lot and wants to do everything with him.   He is super friendly and start up conversations with just about anyone.  He really likes to play with Weston a lot also and usually is pretty gentle with him.  He loves to play with his friends, to draw and to read with Lawson.

Weston is growing up so fast.  He starts nursery in a few weeks.  Crazy!  He can run now, which still throws Jake and I off a little.  It is so cute.  He loves to play with his brothers and sister and is always so excited when Daddy comes home from work.  He knows a bunch of words now, but only likes to say them when he wants to.  He is so friendly and will say hi to people.  He has the cutest smile that we get to see most of the time.  He is pretty easy going.

I have been taking 1-2 classes each semester for the past year or two to prepare me for Business school at the U.  I applied over the break and just recently found out I was accepted.  Now I am all signed up and ready to take a class or two next semester.  I am really excited, but kind of nervous at the same time.  Other than that I stay busy doing the mom thing making sure my husband and my kiddos stay healthy and happy, which I love.   I feel like I am not always the best at it and know I have a lot to work on, but life is a work-in-progress and we just have to keep trying.   At least I have a lot of awesome women in my life to set great examples for me.

Jake is awesome. He works SO hard all of the time.  We love him for it for sure.  He stays busy at work in Heart Failure and Transplant up at the U Hospital and also with projects at home and with others.   We played a lot of card games in his spare time this weekend.  We had a lot of fun.  When he gets an extra second or two he likes to pull out the guitar and relax.  I appreciate him so much and wish I was better at showing it sometimes.   He is my favorite!

So that kind of sums it up for us for the moment.   Here is a thought I found about journals I thought I would share (another one of my goals has to do with inspirational quotes).

Here are some highlights from our year in no particular order...

This one was our favorite that came out of our family photo shoot this year
